100th Anniversary
This year’s Veterans Day will be the 100th anniversary of its inception.
The war to end all wars, the First World War, WWI, ended with a peace treaty on November 11, 1918. The following year President Woodrow Wilson declared November 11 Armistice Day. Other countries did the same, some calling it Remembrance Day. In this country, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954. (Washington Post Article November 5, 2018)
This year will be the 100th time the United States has honored all veterans of war with a designated day.
Each year Brindlee recognizes all of its employees, on Veterans Day, who have served and continue to serve. This year we will honor them with a lunch and a highlight of the lunch will be our special guest.
Below is a news release that has been sent to the local new agencies concerning this special lunch. Check it out for more details on our Veterans Day celebration.
Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus Will Honor WWII Veteran on Veterans Day
Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus in Union Grove will host a Veterans Day Lunch with a 99-year-old WWII veteran as their special guest.
As a part of its service to its community, Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus (BMFA) employees run 911 emergency calls with the Brindlee Mountain Volunteer Fire Department during normal workday hours. So far in 2018, 166 Emergency Calls have been responded to by BMFA employees.
A recent emergency call took the BMFA employees serving through the Volunteer Fire Department to the home of Mr. Grady. During the assistance, the team noticed a wall calendar indicating a 99th birthday party, a few days before. A quick question to Mr. Brady and he eagerly shared that was his and he was 99. A few sentences later he was reminiscing about his service in WWII.
BMFA first responder employees came back to the office wanting to celebrate Mr. Brady. An idea was quickly birth for a Veterans Day lunch with him as the guest of honor. Next Monday, November 12, at 12 noon, BMFA will do just that.
A number of the Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus employees are veterans and some still serve in reserve status and in the National Guard.
This Veterans Day, Monday, November 12, BMFA will honor all of our veterans, with the distinct privilege of celebrating one of the Greatest Generation.
