A Bird-feeder, friend and memories
Take a look out the window in Ritch's office, and you will see a newly hung bird-feeder. Ritch didn't put it there, but it means a lot to him.
At the end of the day, Butch cornered at me and led me to Ritch's office and pointed out the window, 'do you see that bird-feeder?'
There was no way on my own I would have noticed the feeder as it hung on the side of the building that gets no foot nor vehicle traffic.
Butch went on to say:
"There has been a cardinal hanging around the office. Regularly it goes from one window to the next, on this side of the building, and begins to peck aggressively. The cardinal has been doing this for weeks.
As watched and heard the bird make its presence known, I remembered something I heard Ritch say one day.
You know it hasn't been too long since Ritch's dad passed away. Before he went, he told Ritch, 'it would be nice to come back as a red bird, so I could fly around and get a big picture view of all that is going on.'
That's why the bird-feeder is here. It gives Ritch a beautiful reminder of his dad."
Hearing Butch tell the story was a great reminder and example of the culture at Brindlee. It's a unique place to work where the employees live out the values of gratitude, service, integrity, and excellence. But most importantly, the values are a reflection of how we believe all people should be treated.
Getting to know your co-workers, respecting and caring for them allows for genuine friendships to form. In a later conversation, Ritch said:
"If the whole world treated each other like this, with love and care, it would be a better place for everyone."
This story is just one of many demonstrating how Brindlee employees care for each other in times of need and celebrate in time of joy.
The bird-feeder is a nice addition to an unpopulated piece of land. But the act of putting up the bird feeder is an amazing display of how Brindlee employees care for each other.
