Week 14 - Mikaela Brown - Part 2 Beatittudes

Joey Craig, service manager at Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, shares a traditional Easter message that focuses on the profound shift between the sorrow of Good Friday and the triumph of Easter Sunday.

Refocusing on the True Meaning of Easter

In the midst of traditions like family gatherings, church services, and egg hunts, it is easy to become distracted from the core message of Easter. The purpose of this devotion is to refocus on the historical and spiritual reality of Jesus's resurrection.

The Scriptural Foundation

The devotion is rooted in Matthew 28:5-7, which describes the scene after Jesus's death:

  • Mary and Mary Magdalene visited the tomb and were met by an angel.

  • The angel told them not to be afraid, for Jesus was no longer there.

  • The angel declared, "He is not here for he has risen, as he said".

It’s Friday, But Sunday’s Coming

  • The Despair of Friday: It was a day of betrayal, denial, and suffering. Jesus was beaten, crowned with thorns, and nailed to a cross between criminals. To the world, it appeared that death and sin had won, and hope was lost.

  • The Promise of Sunday: Despite the darkness of Friday—where the earth trembled and the sky grew dark—the message remains: Sunday is coming.

  • The Victory: While Friday was marked by Jesus's burial and a guarded tomb, Sunday represents the fulfillment of His promise and His ultimate resurrection.
