Week 16 - Mikaela Brown - Part 4 Beatittudes

In this concluding part of the series on the Beatitudes, we explore how Jesus’s "upside-down kingdom" calls us to a life of restored relationships and the blissful reality of promised pain.

The Call to Peacemaking

We are often tempted to settle for "peacekeeping," which avoids conflict just to maintain comfort but ultimately enforces compliance and restricts real healing. True peacemaking is different:

  • Restoration through Conflict: Peacemakers enter into conflict to restore relationships from the inside out, bringing tension to the surface so it can be healed.

  • Our Identity: As children of God, we inherit a kingdom of peace and serve as ministers of reconciliation alongside Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

  • Laying Down Rights: Peacemaking requires us to lay down our personal rights for the sake of "right relationship" with God, ourselves, others, and creation.

The Reality of Persecution

Standing for peace and truth inevitably leads to clashing with the world’s experiences.

  • Righteousness as a Target: Jesus calls us blessed when we are persecuted specifically for the sake of righteousness.

  • Jesus in Us: Our righteousness is found in Jesus alone. When we face insults or evil words because of Him, it is often because people are reacting to His presence within us rather than us personally.

  • Eternal Reward: While the world may reject the truth, we are promised a great reward in heaven, sharing in the same legacy as the prophets before us.

Living in Utmost Bliss

The Beatitudes teach us that "bliss" isn't found in what we deserve, but in being emptied of ourselves so we can be filled with Christ.

  • Empty to be Filled: By acknowledging our spiritual poverty and laying down our rights, we enter into the holiness and presence of God.

  • Restored Relationships: The ultimate goal of Jesus’s teaching is right relationship—a beautiful experience found nowhere else.

We can walk this difficult road of persecution with joy, knowing that as we represent Christ to a hurting world, we are promised an eternal glorification with Him.
