Week 37 - Dan Arant - Finding Your Anchor on the "Flat" Days

We’ve all been there. You wake up, and immediately, you just feel... flat. Maybe you’re tired, grouchy, or carrying a sense of anxiety before your feet even touch the floor. A few weeks ago, I had one of those mornings.

Instead of letting that funk take over the rest of my day, I leaned into a simple routine to keep moving forward:

  • Doing the next right thing: Putting my feet on the floor when the alarm went off.

  • Self-care and connection: Putting on clothes I felt good in, hugging my people, and getting some food in my belly.

  • Focusing my mind: Spending time in prayer and reading my Bible.

During my reading that morning, I came across Romans 5:1: "Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

It really made me pause and reflect. Think about the overall story of the Bible—the early chapters show where humanity lost peace with God. But this verse points to the core resolution: our peace with God has been restored.

The most comforting part? We are not the main characters in this restoration. We didn't declare ourselves righteous, nor did we earn peace through good works or our own efforts. It isn't another task added to your to-do list for today. That peace was won for us, fixed, and secured by Jesus.

The Role of an Anchor

Jesus acts as our sure and steady anchor.

If you think about what an anchor actually does, it doesn't stop the boat from rocking during a storm. Instead, it keeps the boat from drifting into danger, holding it secure in both chaos and calm.

Whether your day today is feeling calm or completely chaotic, remember that the ultimate question—"Do I have peace with God?"—has already been answered.

Knowing that you stand on a firm, unshakeable foundation gives you the confidence and courage to simply tackle the next right thing.

I hope this brings a little encouragement to your day!
