Week 24 - Tim White - Father’s Day

With Father's Day approaching this weekend, I've been thinking about something we all have in common: we all have a dad. Without one, we wouldn't be here.

Of course, our experiences with earthly fathers vary. Some were good, some weren't so good, and some were absent. But regardless of those earthly relationships, we all have a Heavenly Father who will never leave us or turn His back on us. His love goes far beyond anything an earthly father can offer.

Here are a few things I've been reflecting on regarding God’s role as our Father:

  • He never grows tired of you. God doesn't get weary of listening when you call out to Him.

  • He will never abandon you. In Deuteronomy 31:8, it says the Lord personally goes ahead of you and will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you. I like to personalize this by putting my own name in the verse, and I encourage you to do the same. This promise is even echoed in Hebrews 13:5.

  • He loves you no matter what. John 3:16-17 reminds us that God loved the world so much He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him might be saved and have eternal life. He didn't send His Son to condemn the world, but to save it.

  • His love is proactive. Romans 5:8 tells us that God showed His love for us because while we were still sinners and distant from Him, Christ died for us. He didn't wait for us to turn to Him first.

The most important thought I want to leave you with this Father's Day weekend is this: God's love for you is not based on your love for Him. It is simply based on His love for you. Nothing you do will make Him love you any more or any less.

I hope you can receive His love today and take a moment to thank Him. Whether you're celebrating your earthly father or finding comfort in your Heavenly one, remember that He is the father to the fatherless and is always dependable. Happy Father's Day.
